1235 W. Broad Street - Liberty Hall

Built 1772. The Liberty Bell is said to have "slept here" behind this stone building, overnight, September 23, 1777, enroute to its wartime hiding place in Allentown. Then crackless and named the State House Bell, it was brought through Quakertown among 700 wagons of church bells and other valuables being evacuated from Philadelphia by 200 continental troops, after American forces were defeated by the British at battles of Brandywine and Paoli Massacre.
